Areas of Focus

Cancer is a complex and challenging disease that affects millions of lives every year and continues to increase each year. The conventional approach to cancer treatment has primarily relied on therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. These have remained largely unchanged since their inception despite their failure. They may have some value in certain cases, however their effectiveness as a sole treatment is often limited.

They are not able to distinguish between healthy cells and cancerous cells and do not take into consideration the specific metabolic nature of those cells or the individual. In their determination to kill cancer cells, they also weaken the body, causing debilitating side effects and creating an environment ripe for recurrence. The side effects and the impact on the patients quality of life are significant concerns and are vastly overlooked by most oncologists. Care needs to be patient-centered, not only addressing the tumor but by identifying the process that created the tumor in the first place and then by treating the individual terrain we can optimize the body’s healing mechanisms. This involves addressing the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of the cancer patient.

At Lunar Integrative Medical Group we employ the Metabolic Approach To Cancer, where we test, asses and address, we do not guess. To break that down:

  • TEST: Biomedical workup that may include:
    • Fresh tissue biopsy
    • Liquid blood biopsy
    • Comprehensive laboratory testing – we run extensive labs giving us a baseline of hour your body is managing the cancering process. And will highlight if we need further advanced diagnostics to identify if other processes as such as toxicity, hormone disruption or infections are contributing factors.
    • Epigenetic blueprint: We may look at your nutra-genomics, onco-genomics and pharma-genomics. We learn how we can work with your genetic blueprint to enhance healing. We identify the therapies (both standard of care and natural therapies) that will be targeted specifically for your cancer process. No algorithms or insurance based protocols.
    • History:  We take a thorough dive into understanding your health since birth – diet, lifestyle, family history, social history and environmental influences.
  • ASSESS: We take the results of your unique set of test data to curate a personalized plan that we can adjust as we so that we are using targeted therapies delivered at the correct time throughout the course of treatment.
  • ADDRESS: Well-vetted and research-supported metabolic therapies alone or alongside standard of care. Natural based therapies include a range of practices and interventions, such as:
    • Nutrition: We embark on a thorough metabolic reset – we start with a 3 month intensive to set the stage and work from there. It is generally ketogenic (because most cancer cells thrive on glucose) in nature but adapted to the individual. This provides valuable information about how your body responds to food and stress.
    • Lifestyle modifications – adapting to the pressures of modern toxic living
    • Intravenous therapy
    • Mistletoe therapy
    • Botanical medicine
    • Nutraceuticals
    • Mind-Body practices
    • Pharmaceutical medications – where appropriate
    • Here are some key reasons why natural-based treatments are important in cancer care:
      • Reducing Side Effects
      • Strengthening the Immune System
      • Enhance overall well-being
      • Optimize Nutrition and Detoxification

Integrative medicine, with its focus on natural-based treatments, is a valuable asset to cancer care. By addressing the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of health, this approach offers a more well-rounded and patient-centered experience. If you or a loved one are facing a cancer diagnosis, consider exploring the potential benefits of holistic cancer care as a complementary approach to traditional treatments or as your sole cancer treatment approach.

“The power that created the body, is the power that can heal the body”
Dr. Joe Dispenza

Chronic illnesses are long-lasting conditions that usually develop gradually over time and persist for prolonged periods, often for a person’s entire life. They impact an individual’s quality of life and may lead to disabilities or even death if not properly managed. Over the last few hundred years with the significant changes we have made to our planet – air, water and soil, it has become difficult for our bodies to adapt and thrive. We lack the metabolic flexibility we need and this has impacted our mitrochondria – the powerhouse of our cells. We are simply toxic and deficient.

Examples of chronic diseases include:

  1. Heart diseases – such as heart disease, stroke and hypertension
  2. Type 2 Diabetes
  3. Chronic respiratory diseases – such as asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  4. Chronic kidney diseases
  5. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
  6. Cancer
  7. Autoimmune diseases – such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus
  8. Neurological diseases – such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease
  9. Chronic infectious diseases – such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis
  10. Reproductive diseases – such as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome

These conditions often share common risk factors such as unhealthy diet – processed foods, sugar, synthetic seed oils, physical inactivity, tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, environmental influences including EMFs, stress, infections, lack of community and disrupted or lack of sleep. Additionally, genetic predisposition and socio-economic factors can also play a role in the development and progression of chronic diseases. We are no longer thriving, we are barely surviving. We must rid our ourselves of the toxicity and optimize the health of our cells and our body’s innate healing mechanisms.

At our clinic, IV Therapy is a mainstay of our offerings. It is a fast and effective way to deliver nutrients and therapeutic compounds directly to the cells via the bloodstream. You receive 100% of the nutrient or compound, this ultimate bioavailability.

There are a number of reasons that medications or supplements that are taken orally may not achieve their intended effect. Factors that affect the availability of medications and supplements could include:

Increasing the amount of a drug or supplement taken orally may achieve the level of absorption needed from a therapeutic perspective but often increased levels come with unwanted side effects such as nausea, heartburn and diarrhea.

The majority of our food is unfortunately very nutrient poor and most diets are composed of chemically processed foods completely lacking in nutrients. There are thousands of enzymatic reactions that happen every second in the body that require a combination of vitamins and minerals in order for our bodies to function. When we lack proper water, oxygen, minerals and vitamins it compromises our immune system and our ability to carry out our daily functions.

What makes us different than your average office, pop-up IV bar or mobile IV office is that a doctor interfaces with each patient and customizes each IV session to the individual addressing their needs and existing conditions, we have extensive training and are diligent to use therapeutics levels of nutrients that work synergistically together.

Often referred to as simply “detox” is another mainstay of our programs. It is the process of removing or neutralizing harmful substances, or toxins from the body. Detoxification occurs naturally through the body’s own mechanisms, primarily involving the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, and skin. However, with our diet and lifestyle in America, these organ systems are under a lot of pressure, and they become “sluggish”. When they are not working at “optimal” levels toxins begin to accumulate and result in a number of health effects including fatigue, brain fog, pain, hormone disruption, digestive issues, headaches, rashes, depression….to name a few.

Toxic exposure is often a silent culprit behind many chronic health conditions. They can be insidious, affecting your health without clear warning signs or evidence. We are currently bombarded with toxic exposures, in our food, air, water, media, personal and home care products. One of the ways we approach detoxification at Lunar Integrative Medical Group is to gain an understanding of what an individual’s lifetime exposure is, not just their potential current exposure. For example, does a person currently have amalgam (mercury) fillings and if so, for how many years. We also look at if a person at one point had amalgam fillings, when they were removed and how were they removed.

Heavy metals cause significant oxidative damage and also have the ability to displace many essential minerals your body needs to function properly. Other toxic substances that need to be considered are persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as insecticides, like glyphosate and what we refer to as opportunistic infections, which include bacteria, viruses, parasites and mold/fungus.

They are called opportunistic because they can be within our bodies and not create any noticeable health issue, they need an “opportunity” – the right environment for them to thrive. If there has been exposure to heavy metals and POPs that suppress the immune system, you become vulnerable to these opportunistic pathogens. Detoxification can be challenging but it is one of the biggest obstacles to cure and for that it is foundational in our approach to care.
